This little dive of a pub is quietly (or not so quietly) making people happy with good music, good food, and good drinks poured by cute bartenders. The service is relaxed and friendly, and if you’re looking for a simple lunch or cheap, this is a great place to check out if you like pub food. You’ll find standard fare like bangers and mash (sausages and mashed potatoes) and corned beef and cabbage, as well as steaks, burgers, and potpies. Specials can stretch to feature island flavors, even local fish over rice with well-made and tasty sauces. While most of the ingredients are commercial, they’re prepared carefully and thoughtfully, and we enjoy our visits.
There is a small outdoor seating area on the wraparound porch, and while extra chairs and speakers may be inelegantly stashed in the corners of the pub, the atmosphere is pleasant and the locals friendly. There are televisions throughout the room and live music some nights (call for the schedule). This is a good little Irish pub and a real gem if you’re looking for a mellow time, good beer, and pretty good food.
