Bistro Molokini
The Grand Wailea is what we call the “Disneyland” resort. It’s nearly cartoonish in its version of paradisiacal perfection: impossibly tall, skinny palms, golf-course-grass that is perfectly trimmed (but you never see them trimming it), and a water feature that loops throughout the grounds in roundabouts and waterfalls, with hidden grotto hot tubs and swim up bars. There’s a bar in the pool restaurant, too, and Bistro Molokini bartenders make pretty good cocktails and “smoothies” that can feature both alcohol and ice cream. The menu offers expensive, but decently made, items like ahi wraps, kalua pork nachos, big salads, and pizzas. There’s also a small sushi selection, which is surprisingly good — and pricey. Service is efficient, if forcefully cheerful. This is a good place to spend your dining credit if you’re taking advantage of one of Spa Grande’s many package deals.

Beautiful setting overlooking the ocean. The soft breezes wafting through…very relaxing! Unfortunately, the service is indifferent. They don’t check back to see if you need anything, fresh drinks, etc. The food takes a LONG time to arrive. We had fish and chips which were good but unspectacular. I had the onion soup to start, which was bland and topped with bread that was so hard it splashed the soup all over the table when I tried to dunk it into the broth (at $11 scandalously overpriced).
Bottom line: go for the setting if you must, but don’t expect much beyond that.
