Foodie Events at the Maui Film Festival
I just found the menus for the special events at Maui Film Festival, and Dionysius himself would be salivating.
Let’s start at the very beginning; opening night on Wednesday June 16.
The elegant Opening Twilight Reception is at our very favorite place to eat, Capische? at the Hotel Wailea. The reception starts are 5:30pm and continues until 7:30pm, which leaves just enough time to get down to the Celestial Cinema to see Zac Efron receive his Shining Star Award and catch the opening night movie, Bran Nue Dae. Individual tickets are $120, which includes food, drinks, and admission to that night’s Celestial Cinema. This event is also included in the Nova Pass ($495).
But here’s what is really kicking me in the pants… the seven station menu:

Stella Artois is a Festival sponsor, and so is Maui Ocean Vodka … so the drinks will feature those two excellent libations. James and I will see you there. Do say hello!
The Celestial Cinema will provide a convenient digestive break for us before we go down to the Starry Night Moondance at Tommy Bahama’s at the Shops at Wailea, where the party goes until the wee hours of the morning.
I’ll be honest: we’re not late night people. But this year we’re going to motivate, because it’s rare that we get a chance to dance our hearts out on Maui (the celebrity spinning DJ is mattnifique (Matt Robinson) from LA).
Drinks are courtesy of Tommy Bahama’s Rum and Stella Artois, and here’s what we’ll snack on between the beats:
Starry Night Moondance Menu
Tuna and snapper sashimi
Green mussels dynamite
Shrimp and crab on ice served with cocktail sauce
Ceviche in wonton cups (plated while you watch)
Spinach and artichoke dip
Crab Dip
Roasted Vegetables
Caviar on crostinis
Fresh Breads
Fruit and Cheese Palm Tree Display
Lamb chops
Lightly Fried Spicy Tuna roll
Chicken Satay with peanut sauce
Stir Fry Shrimp and Vegetables
Individual tickets to the Moondance are $60, and it’s included in several of the Festival’s Passes. You can also see the Festival’s flyer here. (It will take a little time to load.)
I’m getting tired just writing about Opening Night. I think I’ll get ready by heading down to Costco tonight and getting a couple of new beach chairs – they’re the best way to watch the movie at Celestial Cinema. Then it’s early to bed so I can rest up for the festivities.
