Get a better travel deal: Dump your old reservation for a lower walk-in rate

Next time you’re renting a car or a hotel room on Maui (or anywhere else!), you might get a better travel deal by playing an imposter. Here’s how it works.

You will have already reserved your car or room, of course. But when you arrive to claim it, start by asking about last-minute rates. Chances are good it will be lower than what you were quoted when you made your reservation. If it’s not, ask them if they can go lower because you know they must be motivated to rent cars to or fill rooms with unexpected arrivals. Once you squeeze a lower price out of them, just cancel your previous reservation and rebook at the lower rate.
