A Day in the Kitchen with Chef David Paul
Cooking a fabulous meal at home is, for James and I, the most romantic date possible. And when we want to show love for a friend? We cook food we think they would love, and enjoy watching as their faces light up. If you’re like us and are looking for a way to bring even more food love into your life, you should definitely check out Chef David Paul Johnson’s in-depth cooking class this weekend.
Chef’s restaurant, David Paul’s Island Grill, is celebrating its third birthday this year, and it seems like they just keep doing more and more and more special events. Saturday’s hands-on class will be held in the restaurant’s beautiful exhibition kitchen. For $150 per person you get a three hour cooking class, a sit down lunch with wine/beer pairings, and you get to pepper him with questions during the Question and Answer session.
Each class (they occur on a semi-regular basis throughout the year) has its own theme — and this Saturday’s is “Soulful Southern Cuisine.”
Southern fried chicken. BBQ short ribs.
Collard Greens and cornbread.
Fresh peas. Fried green tomatoes. Coleslaw with shrimp.
Peach Cobbler for dessert.
Are you kidding me?!? If that sounds delicious (and how could it not), you should give a call and make a reservation. There are still a few spots left.Parking is easy at this restaurant– just park in the lot behind the restaurant, and they’ll validate for the first two hours. It’s the best deal in Lahaina.
But shhh … don’t tell my James. My Virginia boy has to be in Honolulu this weekend, and he’ll regret missing this one.
To reserve your spot and prepay, call David Paul’s Island Grill at 808-662-3000.

And tell me in your comments: what food communicates love to you or for you?
For me, it’s my grandmother’s recipe for Big Chocolate Cookies: chocolate cake-like cookies frosted with buttercream, coconut shavings optional. And buttermilk biscuits. And slow-roasted chicken. And … and … and …
