Cheers!
I am a sucker for drug stores. Growing up overseas, our bi-annual family summer trips to the U.S. always included numerous visits to these icons of America. My sister and I would breathe in the smell of air-conditioning and run our eyes eagerly across treasures of grape-flavored Bubble Yum and Lifesaver lollipops. As an adult living in the land of Long’s Drugs, I get to wander the aisles whenever I want — but my idea of what makes a treasure has changed.
Unlike east coast drugstores where wine can only be found at the neighborhood liquor store, Hawaiian drug stores dedicate an entire aisle to wine – and many a good wine for under $15.00. So, while stocking up on cotton balls or that sink strainer you keep meaning to get, pick up a bottle of Liberty School Cabernet to go with your grilled meal of the evening, or chill a bottle of my New Zealand favorites, Nobilo or Babich Sauvignon Blanc, in time for sun set. If you’re on a tight budget, Yellowtail wine is currently on sale for $4.99.
Cheers!
