Line Cook at The Four Seasons Maui Competes on Hell’s Kitchen
James and I adore Chef Gordon Ramsay’s reality show Kitchen Nightmares, in which he dives into a sinking restaurant’s business and attempts to fix what’s wrong in the space of a week. We’re transfixed by his radical, direct, take-no-prisoners, no BS style. We have a list of Maui restaurants we’d like Chef Gordon to visit 😉
(The BBC version is even better than the American one; I speculate that he cares about his countrymen a little more than he does about us Yanks.)
Ramsay’s Hell’s Kitchen is a tougher show with a lot more yelling and bleeped out words. And while Kitchen Nightmares has inherent drama in the stories of people about to lose their business, all the drama is made to order by Ramsay himself in his Hell’s Kitchen. He’s quick to judge and scream and slow to praise; it feels a little forced to us generally, but we swallowed hard and set the TiVo to record tonight’s episode because…
… Mikey Termini, a line cook at the Four Seasons, is one of the 16 contestants competing for a position at Chef Gordon’s restaurant at the Savoy in London. Termini didn’t get cut tonight – although he did get thrown out of the kitchen halfway through service for undercooking fish, three times in a row. A guy from Maui not cooking fish correctly?? Ouch.
You can see the Hawaii News Now story on Termini at their website.
In the interview, Termini predicted he’d enjoy being yelled at by Gordon Ramsay, but we didn’t see a smile on his face tonight. Perhaps the reality is even worse than it looks on telly.
Good luck, Mikey – wave that hair high!
