808 Deli
This little deli tucked behind Fred’s Mexican Café features creative and saucy sandwiches, paninis, hot dogs, salads, and breakfast sandwiches. Paninis are made to order (which you factor into the wait time) and we like them because they’re not so cheesy that they sploosh all over your hand when you bite into the grilled sandwich. The $6 hot dogs are kosher and come with a wide array of toppings: avocado and mango salsa, kim chee, and sauerkraut. Sandwiches include deli meats, tuna salad and chicken salad. A good choice to take to the beach or on a long drive is the $10 boxed lunch, which includes sandwich, chips, cookie (homemade), and a drink. If you want to stay, there is a small bar area, or you can sit at one of 808 Bistro’s tables just a little farther back in the complex. They’re closed for lunch, but offer you their lovely garden and beautiful slice-of-beach view.
