Birthday Meal 2: Mama’s Fish House
We officially celebrated James’ birthday at that most Maui of Maui restaurants: Mama’s Fish House.
We gathered with a few of our very favorite people for a meal fit for a king. And what did we wear? Purple velvet crowns. Naturally!
(Those smiley faces on the right of the picture, by the way, belong to Christine and Steve Turnbull, sculptors who own a gallery. If you’ve never been, it’s a must-stop! They have a fantastic website here.)
If you haven’t been to Mama’s since they opened up their new dining wing, you must check it out. It’s like eating inside a giant sculpture – absolutely beautiful. While the ono crudo appetizer went down like a spicy, creamy butter, the wok-fried moi (fish of royalty) was out of this world. And while the adults were all too stuffed for dessert, the boy prince got a black pearl for dessert.
Everyone should be treated like a king for the day … and Mama’s is definitely the place to do it. Thanks, James, for giving me an excuse to give you one more party…

good for you, we already miss Hawaii and we are only a month out, have started making plans for next year. I with no Japanese and a lovely young lady from Japan made “conversation” I told her that she MUST order the Black Pearl for desert(they were photographing everything that came to their table, even drinks). Love getting your emails, they make my mouth water and we don’t let good places all over Colorado pass us by as well.
Keep having fun
