Oh, fantastique! Hawaiian Airlines just announced they will be doubling the number of direct flights to Maui from San Jose and Oakland. Welcome, northern Californians — we’re glad you’re coming. The added flights will start on October 3.
(The flights aren’t actually being added: they’re being shuffled: flights that go direct to Honolulu today will be directed to our fair(er) shores this fall)
If you’ve been thinking about traveling to or from Maui to Oakland or San Jose, check now for the promotional fares associated with this announcement. I just found a round-trip direct flight between Oakland and Maui for only$188 .20 for early October. This time of year is cooler than the summer months, rainier, and we get some big surf. There is no way to time your visit to coincide with the monster waves that can develop at Jaws in Peahi on the north shore. If you’re really lucky, you can see the crazy surfers ride unbelievably big waves. Check out the video to the right.
