Shaka Pizza

Shaka is an East Coast-style pizzeria, and it wins lots of local awards … but keep in mind that pizza is not indigenous to Maui. The crust is okay, but the tomato sauce is lacking the complexity we want in really good pizza, where the sauce is the star of the show. You’ll do better with the white pizza — cheese, olive oil, garlic, and gourmet toppings like clam and spinach. We also like the pesto pizza.

The menu also features sandwiches, but we find everything a tad overpriced for what we’re eating. The open air restaurant seats a lot of people and the pies are large, so this can be a good place to have a casual meal.
