Taste of Wailea a Heavenly Event
We have to apologize to the other guests at Taste of Wailea on Saturday night. We may have had more than our fair share of Spago’s Sesame Miso Cones with Ahi Poke … but we just couldn’t help but go back for a couple more rounds. When judging us, take into account that they’re 3 for $30 at the restaurant.
Let’s do the math, shall we? Three cones each accounted for one third the cost of the Taste itself. We had to fill up, we were down a quart of poke.
“It’s like sushi with candy!” said one of our companions. And she’s right. That’s why we love them. We’ve got an entire video about the cones that we shot at the Kapalua Wine and Food Festival – we’ll post that separately.
While all of the food was fabulous, as it should be when Wailea’s super-expensive restaurants cater an event, we were especially fond of the small dishes provided by Ko at the Fairmont Kea Lani.
Every year I complain to Jim all day that the event is “too hot,” and it is. I wish there were a way to hold it in the evening and still be able to see the film at 8pm, instead of at 4:30pm in the blazing sun.
But heat aside, it’s a wonderful, very Maui event. Beautiful. A must-attend, or at the least, a probably-should-attend.
