Fat Daddy’s Smokehouse
Fat Daddy’s makes good Texas barbecue by smoking meats in their own smoker behind the restaurant and serving them up with traditional sides like macaroni and cheese, baked beans, coleslaw, and cornbread. Everything is made from scratch. If you haven’t had Texas barbecue, you should know that it’s supposed to be bright pink inside and dark brown — charred — on the outside. The meat cures while soaking up the intense, wood smoke flavor. Once smoked, the meat is dressed with a sauce, which can be sweet or spicy, vinegary or tomato-ey, and this is served on the side or dashed over the top. We like the brisket, the ribs, and the pulled pork.
The sauce is too sweet on its own, but when paired with the meat, the woodsy char darkens the flavor and they balance each other out (use more sauce on the pork than you think you need). We like the watercress salad as a side because, while the bitter cress is used sparingly, it’s nice with the sweet carrots, and the dressing is light and fresh. The cornbread we leave alone. The plate combinations are a good value and big enough for most people to share. A full bar and several flat screen televisions make this an excellent place to hang out with your friends and watch the game. Kids also love this place for a filling, inexpensive casual family meal.

Horrible. Just a bar with a restaurant as an after thought. Don’t waste you time or money. Service was non-existent, kept saying, “I’ll be right with you” and never did. TV’s way too loud, could not hold a conversation. They were supposed to have pulled pork, but I heard the waitress ask the “cook” when the pulled pork would be ready, he said “in an hour or so” and this was at 5:30pm!
Walk out and go around the corner to Alexander’s!
