Eskimo Candy
Eskimo Candy is a fish wholesaler with a lunch counter that serves fish plates, burgers, wraps, and ribs. The menu is pretty transparent about what you’re eating. The Fish-n-Chips platter is advertised as “w/ frozen mahi” and “w/ frozen ono” ($6.95 each). The truth is that anyone selling you fish and chips on Maui is working with frozen fish — otherwise you’d be paying $16 for that plate — but few are willing to say so on their menu. Of course, no other restaurant is hoping to sell you fresh fish to take home, either. We would buy more fresh fish and marinated fish from Eskimo Candy’s retail operation if the prices were lower than they are at grocery stores.
We do like their poke (ahi sashimi with spices), but we also like Foodland’s. The bottom line is Eskimo Candy provides good to average, inexpensive food in a clean, get-out-of-here-quick atmosphere. Outside tables don’t have a great view (the street and parking lot), but the service is helpful and quick, and kids are very happy with the fish shack atmosphere and the menu.
