CJ’s Deli & Diner
CJ’s is a down-home restaurant hoping to cater both to locals and visitors with comfort food at reasonable prices. Keeping in mind that everything in Ka’anapali is overpriced, they generally succeed.
We like the breakfasts best, especially for families who need a break from the resort prices. Pancakes and French toast and omelets are the best bets. Lunch and dinner entrées are problematic — maybe because the menu is so extensive for such a small eatery? CJ’s serves everything from grilled salmon to mango glazed ribs to deli sandwiches and paninis. While we don’t have a favorite, we do think the Hana Box Lunch is a good deal. For $12 you get a deli sandwich with the lettuce, tomato, and toppings wrapped separately so your bread stays dry. You also get chips, a drink, and a brownie. If you need a cooler, they’ll loan one to you for a $5 deposit, which you can keep for the length of your stay. They’ll even give you free refills on ice (good inducement to get you to come back for another meal). We like the humor applied to the kids menu, which offers lizard toes and squid eyes soup (just kidding!) and promises no weird spices in the chicken dinner. If you’re on the West Side, traveling with a family, and facing the dearth of inexpensive breakfast options, this this is a good stop.

We went for breakfast. The eggs benedict was too spicy for my teenaged daughter to enjoy. And we were dissapointed that the juices were below average canned stuff. The omelet was good, but there wasn’t anything special about the pancakes. My sister tells me that to portuges (sp) sausage is really good.
