Kimo’s
This waterfront restaurant is run by a very successful family of businesses, T S Restaurants, which chooses gorgeous beachfront locations, decorates them with lava rocks, tiki torches, and lots of wood, and serves up big portions of average-to-good steaks, chicken, fish dishes, and their famous Hula Pie — a huge slice of macadamia nut ice cream cake slathered in fudge and whip cream. Sister restaurants on Maui include Leilani’s on the Beach and Hula Grill in Ka’anapali and Duke’s in Honokowai. In general, we find the food undistinguished. Service is fine, if a little forced, drinks are strong, and the location, location, location never, ever disappoints.
The sunset view from Kimo’s can make even the most average of fairly priced food seem much more than average, and we think that accounts for much of this restaurant’s popularity.
