Lahaina Pizza Company
This deep dish pie place used to be part of a mainland chain — BJ’s — before it went independent and changed its name. The owners haven’t changed, but something in the kitchen did: what used to be pretty good pizza is now simply average. The pizzas are too often doughy (a risk with this style) and lack the crispy edges that used to charm us. Toppings are still generous, but lack flavor and punch. The sauce is still red, but has lost its tomato flavor. The fabulous sunset view of Lahaina
Harbor from their second floor location is still inspiring, however, and we still love the live music every night. Funny enough, we like the Buffalo wings well enough to make a point of stopping in once in a while: the huge platter piled with brilliantly orange thighs, wings, and drumsticks comes with fire on the chicken and cool blue cheese dressing on the side. Pair those with a beer and you are good to go. Service is proficient once you get a seat, but lines can form on busy nights. If you’re going berserk trying to find parking, there’s a free (shhhhh) public lot directly behind this section of Front Street, on Luakini
Street. Address: 730 Front St., Lahaina, West Maui
Location: Across from the sea wall, near the intersection with Dickinson.

We ate there for lunch on a Saturday. We got there in time to get the last seat above the road. Nice view. We had the lasagna, raviolis, and mini pizza. Everything came quickly and was really good. The marinara sauce was mild and sweet, just the way we prefer it.

Good location with a nice view. After placing our order two of my children received their pasta immediately. An hour later my husband had not received his pasta and my son had not received his pizza. The waitress kept telling us a few minutes, a few more minutes. The kitchen was completely disorganized. The price was high for a pizza place and they charge you for the bread by the roll (50 cents each). I also found the bar seating above the tables uncomfortable. We could hear each others conversations and eat off each others plates if we wanted to as we were only inches away from each other. In the end we left before getting the rest of our meal. A real disappointment.

I have mixed feelings on BJ’s. Being from Chicago, I may be a bit biased. The first time I was there the pizza was awesome. But, since then, they seemed to have changed the recipe a bit and has just been average. The service is a bit mixed as well. I have been there and have had great service, but other times, had a hard time finding our server. It does have a great view of Front Street and the water.
