Sea House Restaurant
If the thought of the breakfast line at Gazebo drives you crazy (it does us), take comfort in knowing that we think your best bet for breakfast in Napili is actually their neighbor, Sea House.
Sea House is the main restaurant at the Napili Kai, a resort that oozes the relaxed Aloha spirit Maui is famous for. The service is friendly and efficient, and the breakfast fare is wonderful. We like the hearty panini, the giant baked egg frittatas, and the friendly egg scrambles. But one of our very favorite breakfast items is the Dutch Baby pancake.
Of course, Sea House calls it a Crater Pancake. Essentially a giant custard, it comes topped with lemon juice and powdered sugar, and it’s perfect. Creamy textured. Crisp on the outside. Bright-flavored and sweet without being cloying: Delicious! The Haleakala Pancake is the same confection, but topped with cinnamon, sugar, apples, and pineapples. Too sweet, in our opinion, but some disagree.
We don’t recommend lunches and dinners here, but we do drive from South Maui to have breakfast meetings here … and if that doesn’t sound like a big deal, ask a local what would taste good enough for them to drive one hour before eating breakfast. The location — immediately on the water — offers beautiful views and fresh air and the same whales (in season) that you can see from the more popular (why?) Gazebo.

We stopped by the Sea House for pupus and mai tais. What a deal! Great food and great prices. We enjoyed the coconut shrimp, pork tacos and ahi sashimi. There are about 5 other things one the menu I can hardly wait to try.

We visited the Sea House Restaurant on several occasions during our stay in a condo at the Napili Kai Beach Resort…twice for breakfast, once for lunch and also for pupus and drinks one afternoon. Our meals were quite good although service was sometimes a bit slow and the few wait staff on duty seemed a tad overwhelmed (perhaps they need a few more staff!). For breakfast, we especially enjoyed the Eggs Benedict (spinach/tomato) and Molokai Sweet Potato Egg Frittata. For lunch the Butterfly Coconut Shrimp and Salad with Papaya Dressing were delightful . The view of Napili Bay from the Sea House is really lovely! I can see why they earned the award for “Best Kept Secret” for 2010. Next time we may try them for dinner!
