Whole Foods Offering Savings on Local Dairy Products Through January 25th
This Sunday morning we snagged a hearty breakfast at Whole Foods in Kahului: fresh omelets made with 100% locally-sourced dairy. The local egg breakfast specials will also be offered this coming Sunday, January 22, if you’re in Kahului and famishd.
The”No Ka Oi” features Hamakua mushrooms, Anuhea Farms asparagus, Ho Farms tomatoes (nicely pan-roasted), and Waipoli baby spinach. The mushroom slices were so thick and satisfying that it didn’t “feel” vegetarian at all. Meanwhile, the decidedly carnivorous “Paniolo” featured generous slices of Maui Cattle Company beef, Maui sweet onions, Ho Farms tomatoes (diced this time), green peppers and green onions. We were so full after these that we skipped lunch.
The eggs in both specials come from Maili Moa Farms on Oahu, are cage-free, and also happen to be on sale right now: $4.99 for a dozen through January 25.
The butter is hand-churned and comes from Naked Cow Dairy, also on Oahu. The cheese is, of course, our favorite: Surfing Goat Dairy.
These and a few other local dairy products are on sale now through January 25. If you’ve been wondering if local dairy (cheese, eggs, milk) is really worth the extra cost … the answer is yes. Of special note, for us, is the variety of Surfing Goat Dairy cheeses on sale right now at $1-$3 dollars off per pound. If you can’t get up to their farm to see the goats, take advantage of these prices…
